Did Pamela Sue Martin?.....

Did she leave Nancy drew to do dynasty?

reply

I don't think so since Dynasty didn't start until 1981 and she left this show in 1978. When she did take the role in Dynasty I remember that it was a little shocking considering her earlier image as Nancy Drew. Her role on Dynasty was an early version of Paris Hilton.

She quit the series long before Dynasty. She was upset that series was supposedly gonna focus on combined episodes of all 3 of them, and eliminate her separate series. So the last standalone Nancy episode in January was her last.

The producers were focusing on the Hardy Boy's due to Shaun Cassidy's ever growing fame, and they were considering writing off Nancy for a while. After Pamela quit they got another girl to Play Nancy on a few episodes then they just wrote out Nancy Drew all together. I remember William Schallert who played Nancy's father discussing it in an interview, he kinda joked about it and said well the Nancy Drew part got written out because a certain actor who played one of the Hardy Boy's was quite up and coming and they wanted to focus on him. I won't mention his name. LOL.

bbraat, though I agree with your comment "Her role on Dynasty was an early version of Paris Hilton", I disagree with "that it was a little shocking considering her earlier image as Nancy Drew". Though the Nancy Drew character is rather wholesome, there is nothing wholesome about Pamela Sue Martin's portrayal of her. Every time I see her, I see a b*tch lurking just below the surface. She was a really poor choice. Lisa Eilbacher would have been a MUCH better choice to play ND. Though I think Bonita Granville was the best ND, I think Emma Roberts did a great job. To me, Pamela Sue Martin just killed the role and it's no wonder why they discontinued her character. IMO Lisa Eilbacher had a genuine ability to portray the wholesomeness of ND. though she lacked the headstrong personality that Bonita Granville, and to a lesser extent Emma Roberts, portrayed so well.

I have to rephrase say smethibg. I have no evidnce that warrants me using "b*tch" to descrbe her. It's just a feeling I have that may completely inaccurate. I still think she was a poor chioce to play ND. Lisa Eilbacher would have been a MUCH better choice and may possibly have resulted in there being more ND episodes than there were.
