Nowhere in any of the books....
....did Joe sing !!!!!
shareLOL, Joe singing was due to Shaun Cassidy's rising popularity as a teen idol at the time. The creators of the show decided to cash in on it.
shareIt is like I wrote to another forum member, this show is not the Hardy Boys. This is a mystery/adventure series that is very loosely based on the Hardy Boys series of books. I could cite you so many inaccuracies between the TV Show and the books that I think you'd be very surprised.
Joe did, or was going to, play the guitar though, in one of the books. Check Vampire Trail. Joe was at least going to play the guitar, before some mean kid broke his guitar. I'd have to re-read the book, though, to see if he sung, or was going to sing a note!
Danger on vampire trail is my fav Hardy boys book . ah passed many a good night re-reading that one . I'll have to dig it up now lol
shareThanks, glad to hear it is your favorite book. I own a pb edition of it, and have read it. If you don't mind thumbing through it, especially to the part where the kid breaks Joe's guitar and previous to that, you can see whether Joe was even intending to sing at this event that they were going to, or went to. I'm thinking it got broken when they were actually on stage at the event, but just can't remember.
And, of course, Shaun was picked early in the process, probably because of his looks and singing skill. And, he was a surprisingly good actor, for someone who probably started as a singer.
But, of course, he was a very good singer. Both his parents sang well (I don't know why that works for some people and not others - my mom had a beautiful voice, and my dad has a good one too, yet all 3 kids can't sing. I can a little bit, but nothing like them!) Anyway, like I was saying, of course they were going to make the most of his singing ability. And, I for one, am glad they did; I enjoyed his singing. But, I'm from that generation.
And remember, Frank heard him sing a whole song at least once - at the very end of the Mystery of the Flying Courier. Shaun sings "That's Rock n Roll", and Callie and Fenton dance to it, and Frank sits and listens to the whole thing.
Also, I usually put this disclaimer - The Hardy Boys was a really good show, but just remember when you're watching it, you're watching a show that is very loosely based on the Hardy Boys books (1-58).
Even Parker said, in an interview, that many times they went with what worked, so it didn't matter what the Hardys would have done in the same situation. Having said all that, and being a big Hardy book fan from the 60s, it is still one of my all time favorite shows.
But, thanks for looking that up if you have the time. I think he was either playing the guitar when it got busted, or he was playing and singing, at the time.
I'll will look it up this weekend and post it here on Sunday I'm a fan of the books as well as the show I've bought season 1 and 2 for $10 each but can't find 3 yet think I'll have to order it online
shareI'm not sure if season 3 is on DVD.
That's the worst season, though. So, don't be too disappointed if it isn't.
I still loved the show, though.
Shout Factory released season 3 in Feb 2013 following a 6 year wait after the Universal Studios release of season 2. In the third season the show was retitled The Hardy Boys because the Nancy Drew character was dropped altogether. Season 3 also lasted only 10 episodes.

I don't know what they have to say. It makes no difference anyway. Whatever it is, I'm against it.
