Why were the later seasons so dumbed down?

Stupid plots, ridiculous dialogue, lame characters, and over the top stunts.

It's all pretty relative, don't you think? I mean, the show itself was slightly cartoonish, was pretty superficial and heavily-sanitized family viewing. Not that there's anything wrong with that type of show.

Fact is, the formula was TOO simple and after a couple of seasons the whole thing was tired beyond belief. It's not the first show to last a season or two past its use-by date.
