How come they never EVER wear seat belts, officers included??

I really like this show!! The stories and personalities are great. BUT, what is up with the driving?? The background drivers on the highway in every episode are STUPID retards. They all fishtail out of control, and often ride up the trunk of a car (that has stopped on the highway in response to the situation) and fly over that car and flip onto its roof. ... and in EVERY EPISODE, NOBODY WEARS Seat Belts, no one!! The cops never do, the citizens never do. EVER, really. You see the seatbelt unused off to the right of the screen all the time.
Is this an oversight?

Seatbelts weren't required by law in California until about 1986, years after the show ended. Nobody for the most part wore their seatbelts back in the 70's and early 80's.

That's just how it was and the dumb drivers who fishtail and cause the 10 car pile-ups is to show what can happen on the freeways due to bad driving and for the show to have action.

Believe me, we have the most stupidest drivers in California and tons of illegals who drive who shouldn't be driving.

We didn't get ours until Dec of 1990 here in Oregon

Here in NJ it wasn't required to use them until 2010

Looks like this was a big oversight. It would have been nice if they devoted a full episode targeting drivers not wearing seat belts

I grew up in Key West, FL and I don’t remember people regularly using seatbelts until 1986. I remember that year distinctly.
