Did the ending get chopped up during editing?
It seems there are seconds missings here and there especially when you count the number of shots actually fired (by the sound track) compared to how many shots he had total in each gun.

I’ve wondered if Scorsese had ever thought of putting out an unrated edition with the original color since presumably this wasn’t his preference.
he ran out of money while filming the final shootout and so had to get creative with the edit in post to make up for certain gaps.
