Risky filmmaking

This was an ambitious - and dangerous-to-make - movie. It was more "classic Hollywood" than we'd expect from its 1976 release. And, we see James Earl Jones acting 1 year before Star Wars.

Carl Manoogian was key grip on this film. For us interested in making risky action films, read James C. Udel's book, "The Film Crew of Hollywood" (McFarland Publishers, 2014).

Udel's bio on Carl shows what a grip actually does. He describes problems met and solved in filming, along with photographic stills of cast and crew at work.

If you like behind the camera facts on action films, this one is for you.
