I have never seen this movie but I know it is rated R and I would like to know why.....just curious.

Just a guess: drugs, sex and alcool used explicitly according to USA...and destructive behavior and suicide at the end.

language, and some nudity, you dont see anything, but things are implyed. but most ly language. you know, f words in there, if it wernt it would be rated pg 13 I bet

It was a 1976 R. It would be a 2006 PG13.

I totally agree. I just saw the movie and it would be PG13 movie today....I still loved it though.

When was Sally Kirkland showing her breasts? I think you have her mixed up with Quentin, the skanky Rolling Stone girl who was in the pool and ended up in the bed with John Norman to get an interview with Esther. That wasn't Sally Kirkland. Sally Kirkland was the photographer taking pictures of Esther that day at the desert house in preparation for her tour. Unless I have lost my mind, I don't remember her ever being bare-breasted...and I just watched the movie again two days ago. But please correct me if I'm wrong!

I assumed the Rolling Stone skank was Sally Kirkland.

Ratings were stricter in 1976. I would love to see an adult film parody called "A Star Is Porn". That would be hilarious. There was actually an adult film actress who resembled Barbra Streisand. Her name was Tasha Voux.
