has anyone heard of the stage production of "sparkle"? it is adapted to the stage by reknowned playwright ntozake shange and is now playing at the ensemble theatre in houston, tx. it stars beverly williams, constance washington (as sparkle), ane mouton, teacake ferguson, nkrumah gatling, rocfielle "roc" living, broderick jones and has a cameo appearance from comic/activist dick gregory. with the orginal story and characters intact and the music of the great curtis mayfield.

i've never heard of this before but ran across it doing a search of "sparkle" movie reviews. sounds interesting. i wonder if it will tour across the country. we'll see!!

Yes. Im not sure what year, 2002/2003 somewhere around there-i saw a stage version of the film. It was on the west coast. Not sure if that was community theater or what, but it was great...

clicked the link-that review of the play was kinda harsh.whatever. Maybe you have to be a fan of the film to enjoy it...

i definately agree. i would love to see this on the stage.

i saw it here in houston.....and it was horrible
the stage play is horribly written and loses everything the movie had
the actors were also pretty bad....the actress who portrayed sparkle was a mess.....although sister did well
but.....the script was sooo bad...this show wont make it

yes. it actually had its world premiere here in philly at the New Freedom Theatre and was directed by famed director Walter Dallas. Many of my friends from college were apart of the production when I was a freshman in undergrad. It was supposed to be a national tour and then make moves towards Broadway but lack of money caused the production to cease and last I heard it was being done in Atlanta and now Houston I assume. It was PHENOMENAL WHEN I SAW IT!!!!!
