does anyone know what ever happened to delores? she didn't show up at sister's funeral nor did she come and support sparkle at her concert performance. was she that distant from her sisters that she couldn't come back for anything of importance? what do you think???
I think if she would have came back her dramatic exit wouldnt have been so significant. She said she was tired of living in poverty. She left in search of a better life. When Stix left, his love for Sparkle brought him back. It was meant to be. Delores was serious when she left. She was through with Harlem. So much so, not even the death of her sister could bring her back. I guess. Luv luv luv this movie.
I think the reason she never came back is because she blamed herself for everything that had happen. They were five friends that were inseparable. And when things start falling apart you saw how she would do anything to keep them together. I think she loved sister the most. When Levi got locked up she fell apart and couldn't take it. She got out of there and never looked back. Maybe they never knew where she went. But I do think they should have showed her working in some diner smiling during Sparkle performance, like how they showed Levi in jail.
I also think that she thought it was her fault in the matter of Levi. She was trying to hit a certain target which was Satin and she missed it. I guess she felt like it was over and she would never be able to save her sister. And she no longer wanted see or live in that kind of pain any longer.
Delores was from the HOOD. She knew that it would come back to her that she snitched on Satin and noone wants to stick around for that. She was also messed up because she thought that snitching would save her sister and it backfired on her. Since Satin was roaming free, she couldn't save her sister so she saved herself.
I guess Delores probably left town and assumed a new identity, never to be heard from or seen by her family. But I think they should have implied what she was up to.
In an interview I remember from the time of the initial release of the film, Dwan Smith said that the original script had Delores becoming involved in the growing civil rights and Black Pride movement. It was supposed to depict her growing an Afro and being in marches and rallies. Whether these scenes were ever filmed is up for conjecture.
