Remake

Unfortunately, you are right. The problem is that the movie industry is making remakes way too soon after the original. On top of that, they make the mistake of believing they can turn any classic television show into a movie; and in the last 5 years, they have, for the most part, come up snake eyes in that department; flop after flop, mainly because they went out of their way to add too many off-beat ideas into the movie, many of which had little to do with the television program.

They should be lucky that the original 'Sparkle' is 31 years old; but then again, in some cases, it may be sacrilege to mess with an original. Peter Jackson was lucky that the original 'King Kong' was 72 years old, done with technology that is ancient. Yet, many people today worship the original 1933 classic.

Word is that Raven-Symone will play Sparkle. By the time this remake goes into production, she will have finished participation in the production of another remake; namely, 'Adventures In Babysitting' (a remake of the 1986 movie which starred Elisabeth Shue). The only thing she will have against her, even before they start production on 'Sparkle', is her weight. She is losing it right now, but if it goes up or it doesn't come down enough, they WILL drop her like a hot iron and replace her.

I have a feeling that the 'Babysitting' movie will not sell. 22 years between the original and remake is too soon. So, having quit the Cheetah Girls for good, Raven most definitely needs 'Sparkle' to be a hit. If not, her campaign to make the A-list as a MOVIE actress (as opposed to TELEVISION SIT-COM actress) will be severely crippled.
