Robert Duvall does Brit!

Alan Arkin does Austrian!

Vanessa Redgrave does French!

ALL TERRIBLY!

What a shame! I love all these actors. Was there no dialect coach on the set?

reply

Holmes on cocaine? facepalm. Why tarnish the legend?

reply

Um, Holmes did take cocaine...between cases. It's in the canon.

reply

Exactly.

"Robert Duvall does Brit!"

No such thing as a British accent.

Barbados was a British colony, thus part of The British Isles marco26 (Age 55)

reply

"No such thing as a British accent."

Certainly not the way Robert Duvall did it in this movie!

reply

Well he couldn't very well say Robert Duvall does English! It makes it sound like the man normally spoke Portuguese or something.

The film was a generally light-hearted pastiche...Sherlock Holmes meeting Sigmund Freud after all. I don't think it necessarily required dialogue coaches. May be they were there, may be they weren't. E.G. I personally found it quietly amusing hearing Robert Duvall do a thoroughly English accent.

reply

I agree, the accents are all pretty bad, especially Duvall's.
