That Scene When..........

That promoter just buries Rocky that night right before the fight.

Rocky finally got himself to believe he's got a shot, a small shot but a shot. He built up enough confidence in himself to take the chance.

He goes to the forum the night before the fight and Rocky feels cocky enough to tell the promoter they have his colors wrong on the poster. Promoter says and I'm paraphrasing here "doesn't really matter does it, I'm sure you're gonna give us all a great show."

Rocky is crushed as he realizes right then that this whole thing is a joke and it's on him. Brutal scene. Love when he goes home to Adrian and climbs into bed and says to her "I just wanna go the distance"

Jergens. Surely, you remember that, Corky?

RIP Gene Wilder. One of the funniest people of all time. RIP Matt Roberts. You were great.

reply

Well said. And funnily enough, it was done ad hoc - the prop people had accidentally painted the wrong colors on Rocky's trunks, so Stallone wrote it in on the fly.

reply

Ad hoc?

Honestly don't think there was anything wrong with what he said. I mean who honestly would really care if a guy was wearing the wrong shorts on a poster

reply

You're an IDIOT, the scene totally went over your head

reply

Well, Rocky cared.

I don't think it's necessary to call Whovian an Idiot for expressing an opinion that is no different from anyone else, one that is totally subjective and speculative. While I do think that scene played in well with the overall theme that Rocky is just a pawn in the whole scheme to promote a fight, I took Jergens comment not meaning to be negative or degrading, rather, just saying: "at this point, it only details" and give it your best shot.

Burn in hell, no one asked you

reply

Corky would never say that. You need to get a new schtick.

hahahahaha!

Excellent point. I don't think he was dissing Rocky either.

If rocky had been a more high profile boxer they would have fixed it, it didn’t matter because to them rocky was a joke. Why bother redoing the poster for someone who doesn’t matter? Rocky sure proved them wrong

reply

The scene had great impact coming as it did after the rousing Gonna Fly Now scene.

reply

Still rousing. People play the Rocky soundtracks at games all over the world still.

Rocky realized that they never would have screwed up anything on Apollo's poster. But if somehow they did, they would have moved heaven and Earth to fix it.
