...the old one-eyed guy threw an arrow with his bare hands from atop a castle (which was ridiculously far away to begin with) and it pierced the armor of King Richard. I'm sorry, that just made me break out laughing. It seems like this was supposed to be serious, but it's just so absurd!
I don't remember that it "pierced" his armor...it came from a great height and angle and thus found a gap between armor and unprotected skin, in his neck.
This was actually how King Richard I really was killed, except that it was by a boy using a crossbow, not an old man throwing an arrow (but he was using a frying pan for a shield). His name was Pierre Basile, and it was at the siege of Châlus-Charbrol on March 26, 1199. He was flayed alive the day Richard died (April 6, 1199)
