Mortal wounds (possible spoilers)

It has been hinted at in other threads, but do any viewers think that Robin's wounds might be very severe after the duel with the Sheriff, and that Marion poisons them both to spare Robin a lingering death and to assure the two die together (hence her amazing closing speech about loving Robin)?

This is how I like to see the ending - what do you think?

I remember a thread some years back where that was the consensus, so you're definitely not alone in that view.

Myself, though, I take a more bittersweet view of the situation. I believe Marian poisons Robin and herself because their era is past, and she is sparing her love Robin from trying to live a life and time that is long past him. Robin is nowhere near the man he once was, and in his final battle with the Sheriff, a lot of the men he raised for the fight were killed in the battle. Robin sees none of this, and only talks of restoring his glory when he's taken to Marian for healing. Marian wisely sees that these plans will come to naught, and will leave Robin broken and sad, and likely cost the lives of many young followers. Robin finally realizes this, when he says something to the effect of "I'll never have another day like this, will I?"

You are the naked angel in my heart.
