Anyone have DVD information?
I'd love to get this movie on DVD - anyone heard anything?
shareNothing, and I wish they would hurry!
shareI'm waiting, too. This is one of my favorite "gay" films. While the sensibilities of this film were decades ahead of its time, the setting was not. How difficult would it be to mount a revival of the original play today, being that the setting is a bath house?
shareI attended a performance of the stage musical in San Francisco in 2001 or 2002 done by a local theatre company (New Conservatory Theatre). It was a good production on a fairly small stage. Sucks that this "classic" isn't on DVD.
shareHi. I have been waiting and waiting and....well, you know. I wrote to Warner Home Video and they sent back a polite "not on our list to release in the foreseeable future" email. Just GOT to have this on DVD!!
shareFor what it's worth, I just signed up at Amazon to be alerted when the film becomes available. From past experience, it appears that Amazon only includes this option after they have received a certain number of searches for a specific title. Therefore, there must be a number of people out there searching for this film. If you haven't already registered with them, take a moment and go add your email to the request list.
Amazon says that they periodically report the number of hits/requests to the studios that own the rights so the studio will be aware that there is a demand for the film.
May not help, but it couldn't hurt either...

Man, I got my first laserdisc player because I saw this was on laserdisc. Now I NEED it on DVD!
Idiot-proof the world and the world will make a better idiot.
I got onto Warner Bros. web site http://www2.warnerbros.com/main/help/help.html
I put the question to them. When are you going to release Richard Lester's 1976 The Ritz.? I'll let you know the reply. Perhaps if a few of us ask, they might consider they have a market for the DVD and release it.
Hi.
I just got notification from videoETA.com that it will be released on DVD on January 8, 2008
YAY
tom-kitson beat me to it in announcing the DVD release date. Now I would like to know if any extras like cast commentary and/or deleted scenes will be added.
If not, I'll still buy a copy (maybe two) anyway!

lol i have like 7 different e-mail adresses and i used them all on the DVD thing they are doing in amazon.com for The Ritz...i cant wait for it to come out on DVD!
shareThe Ritz is so funny! The characters were all superbly cast. Googie was great! F. Murray Abraham was perfect. Moreover, Jack Weston just killed me with his totally "Without a Clue" encounter with the denizens of the last place anyone would think to look for him.
I am just dying to see it again, so many funny moments. One I remember fondly was the “Cowboy Chaps” bit. “I was thinking they looked like Cowboy Chaps!”
Go vote at amazon.com, in fact, Stuff the Ballot Box, I need to see this again. Had a copy around for years but it vanished and I am longing to see Googie tell off the weather man again.
I have a copy on DVD, but its not a studio version, but rather one someone recorded from there VHS copy; so far thats the only way to get this wonderful comedy on DVD.
sharei just took my VHS and had a friend record it onto dvd it pretty good copy but i to am also waiting for the dvd studio copy
shareebay has the ritz on dvd i just looked
shareI did the same with my copy of THE RITZ on laser disc
shareThere's a site i've just downloaded it from if anyone wants it email me at [email protected]
shareMight I suggest you call MOVIEHUNTER, as I am intend to do.
They don't have an online database but provide services for the Movie Industry itself. These people have access to almost anything if you give them enough time to search, most likely they can actually send a DVD copy to you.
Here is how it works.
Tell them what you want.
They search it out on their data base. Again it is huge apparently.
They then, for a price, can transfer from 35mm or VHS to DVD to give you a private DVD copy.
It works nicely. The copy has limited options under menu.
Play, Select scene. But what more can you want. :)
Heres the URL: http://www.go-c.com/moviehunter/
Get the free 888 phone number there.
Good luck. :) I am calling for my own copy today probably.

It looks like IMDB have it listed as available on LD from Warner Home Video. The US VHS version is to be announced. I haven't been able to find anything info on Time Warner web site. I have noticed that the UK Version has the studio listed as Tartan Video. www.tartanvideo.com . That doesn't list The Ritz either. It looks like the great hunt is still ongoing.
shareI've had it on video from a TV broadcast for years and have just transferred it onto DVD for my own personal use. I've been waiting ages for Amazon to notify me of an original DVD copy but so far no luck.
shareI just brought it on DVD. You can visit http://forgottencinema.ecrater.com/.
Its just a copy of the movie from VHS but its a good copy with a menu. I love this movie. Living in NYC I can't wait to see the revival on Broadway, staring Rosie Perez as Googie!
TLAVido show a January 08 release of this title (on their website on 9-16-07)
