Let's thank Rita!!

I would thank Rita for this film. If it wasn't because of her this movie wouldn't even exist. According to her she made up the character of Googie on the set of West Side Story. She had been doing the character for friends and small parties for laughs and then Terrence McNally saw her doing Googie and wrote the play and then the movie. Of course lets also thank the writer but come on it was all Rita lol.

no she didn't win an oscar, what a shame but she was nominated for a golden globe and won a tony for the broadway version. so she did win something for it, thats good.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Rita Moreno...

I can't help but find it amusing that I was watching her on 'The Electric Company' at the time this film was released. She was my favorite character on the show (big shock, huh?), and then I discover this film years later...

I also loved her on 'Oz'. Heck, I love her in every role I've ever seen her play.

Because of billing, Rita Moreno's Tony nomination was for a supporting role. When she won, she graciously but firmly reminded the theatre community and television audience that her's was indeed a leading role. She was smart. William Daniels had the same problem with 1776 and he refused the supporting role nomination. Ron Holgate was probably eternally grateful.

I'm sure I'm one of the few on this NG who did see the play, also very funny, one note Paul B Price was also in the play.
This was also lines that did make the film i.e. Duff & Tigar being lovers, something about Guy wanting to lose weight. George (Law & Order) Dunza played Abe, Stephen (7th Heaven) Collins played Brick, Ruth Jaroslow was Viv.
George Dunza was also standby for either Jerry or Jack. The Don's death scene was very brief just him yelling "Kill Praco". The set of the bathhouse was very well done.

I loved The Ritz! I was friends with Rita's daughter and one time when we were maybe 10 or 11 we got to go and see her mom perform The Ritz. It was awesome. Rita Moreno is one of the most gited performers of our time. She is also one of the nicest and caring people I have ever had the priviledge to know. I'll tell you this...she always made me feel welcome and a part of the family whenever I came to play with Fernanda. They don't make them like her anymore!

Rita Moreno is one of the smartest and hardest-working people in show business, and Googie is proof of her drive. What a hilarious character, perfectly played by a woman who's still delivering the goods. Thank you, Rita.
