Region 2 DVD fault?

Besides the obvious average quality of the print (why won't MGM splash the cash on a re-master?) I've noticed that in some scenes black vertical bars appear on the far left and right of the image.

This is on my region 2 DVD.

For example, watch the scene where Clouseau goes into the hotel, signs in, gets the key, does the "does your dog bite" joke, etc. It happens a few times - just thin, black vertical bars briefly appear and disappear a few times at the left and right edges.

Have tried the DVD with both VLC and PowerDVD on my PC with the same problem. No other DVDs exhibit this fault.

Is this a known problem?

Does it also happen on the region 1 DVD?

Yeah don't be paranoid about it. Only saw it while watching it on computers. When watching it on a television you don't see it.

BTW, I don't think the quality of the print is average. You should have seen the previous dvd, that was way worse.

the region 2 Dutch DVD is in perfect condition, great picture quality, widescreen, and no vertical bars of any kind.
