Many people think the Pink Panther series should have finished when Peter Sellers died. But I think the series should have finished with The Pink Panther Strikes Again.
Revenge of the Pink Panther, the last one with Peter Sellers, was one film too many and just wasn't very funny. The premise was clever (the world thinks Clouseau is dead), but it just wasn't very funny.
he didn't even want to make this one. Check out the biopic the Life and Death of Peter Sellers for more about this. Thank god he did though as this is just comedy gold.

The problem with "The Life and Death of Peter Sellers" is that it seems to combine all three 70's Panthers into one movie and for whatever reasons they used "The Pink Panther Strikes Back" title. If you'll notice when Sellers has his second heart attack, he's studying lines for and wearing wardrobe that he wore in "The Revenge of the Pink Panther."

I agree. It is the subsequent Pink Panther movie that he should have refused to do. But apparently he needed the work.

Yes and no. 'Revenge of the Pink Panther', which I admittedly like a lot, is a better Blake Edwards film than an Inspector Clouseau entry; and at times . . . the scenes with Dyan Cannon and Robert Weber . . . it has the feel of something that started out as a very different picture. Remember, this was just before Edwards demonstrated (with '10' and 'S.O.B.') that he could soar commercially without Sellers/Clouseau, so he was almost forced to think in those terms.
It could well be that the Clouseau elements were shoehorned into a non-Clouseau script idea, resulting in the somewhat disjointed film we have today.
"Revenge" isn't as bad as some think. I agree that it's one of the weakest in the series (if you include every film with "Pink Panther" in the title), but it has some redeeming qualities and a handful of hilarious bits.
Well, I sort of agree. But I still think The Revenge of the Pink Panther has its moments, at least compared to Trail, Curse... not to mention Son! And I won't even mention the so-called "remakes".
