zimmer

I was wondering about one thing - when Clouseau is checking into the motel in Germany, not only does he mispronounce "zimmer", but the clerk also does so. Why´s that? Incompetence & laziness in not finding out how german words are supposed to be pronounced...or was the clerk simply mocking Clouseau? The actor was english so he likely wouldn´t know about this stuff. But if it was a joke, most non-german viewers would´t catch it anyhow which in turn would render it rather ineffective.

The clerk doesn't, as far as I know. He never says 'zimmer'.

That was part of the joke, the fact that he couldn't pronounce it properly was part of the gag. Clouseau is suppose to be an inncompetant bumbling idiot and that was what he portrays in these films.

SharkattackUK- "Shoot me again, I ain't dead yet!"

It's a running gag. Nobody can ever understand what Clouseau says.

And it's always a perfect setup for Clouseau: "That's what I said, you fuool!"
