Prescient? No Way!

This film was revealing the current state of TV in the 70s - it was not prescient, it was telling it like it was in the present time - in the 70s.

At the time Network was made it was considered to be somewhat farcical. It may have been a satire of "modern" 1970's television, but as the decades have rolled by it's over-the-top satire has only become more realistic.

For instance, reality television was not really a thing at the time Network was originally released. Fast forward 25 years though and it's not only relevant, it's one of the most popular genres of television entertainment! As television has grown and expanded, Network has only become more relevant, it's themes more prevalent, and it's comedy more tragic.

It's not only relevant today because of modern TV but also because of social media and the internet. People nowadays are more than happy to let a cell phone app like instagram dictate their reality to them.

It's I guess interesting that the film was so anti-television of its time when, by both critics and audiences, All in the Family and Mary Tyler Moore were and still are considered great shows.
