I watched this movie with a "2016" point of view and I saw that nothing much has changed in 40 years.
People are animals. People are dumb. That's pretty much it.

Trump is Beale, an escape valve for people that have had enough.
Whats Clinton? Probably the guy who makes the speech about how there are no nations, only large corporations.

Trump is Beale, an escape valve for people that have had enough.
Aimless, xenophobic, aggressively anti-intellectual, petty anger as a solution to the country's problems? Oh, boy! Sign me up!
After voting GOP from 1992-2012, I've always chided people who openly root for any POTUS to fail. Now, I find myself doing exactly that. For the first time in 45 years, I'm genuinely embarrassed to be American.
As for the Beale/Trump comparison, there's one YUUUUUUGE difference . . Beale's speeches were fantastically evocative. Chayefsky gave the character some of the most potent monologues in movie history. Trump? Urrrrrrm . . less so. Have you ever tried reading any of his speeches, debate responses, etc? To call him an inarticulate boob would be to understate the problem. This man is supposed to be a statesman, representing a proud nation with a history of electing charismatic orators. Instead, we get the proverbial drunk uncle who has a hard time keeping a train of thought on track for more than 30 seconds.
And can we imagine Howard Beale picking Twitter wars with third-rate celebrities or reacting to every public slight? He's a made-up dude, so who knows, but I cannot.

I have meddled with the primal forces of nature and I will atone.
Although Howard Beale is more articulate than Trump, another resemblance is his belief in his own greatness, of being the anointed, specially chosen to deliver salvation to the masses, when in reality he has slipped a cog and lost whatever he may have had of his everlasting mind.
See also "A Face in the Crowd" for the rise, fall, and mental disintegration of a popular mass media personality.
OP: If you want a movie depicting Democrat voters in general, I suggest you watch Reds. Dems are as Red as they come!
