The problem as I see it...

Over the last few weeks I have been reading a lot of boards here on IMDb. A lot of people that don't like a particular movie that is more than 25 years old give little to no real reason for their dislike. However, when they do, it is for reasons based on current societal beliefs. This leads me to believe that these people are under the age of 30. They are unable to see things from the point of view of an earlier time period. This is not their fault, it comes from the way they have been educated.

Society has become so worried about offending someone, that it is know not possible to make an historical movies about American or European cultures historically accurate because it supposedly will offend someone or another. If an author writes a book that has only white characters, the author is called a racist. If the book is adapted into a movie and the race of some of the characters are not changed, the director, screenwriter, producers, and studio are all called racist and the movie is boycotted.

While I don't condone things like racism, rape, and other such reprehensible acts, I can understand them in their historical context.

I'm 55 years old and saw this movie in first run. I had seen most of the films being spoofed. I've seen silent movies, and a lot of movies in between. Most, by today's standards, could not be made, which is actually a shame.
