It would be pretty much a routine oater but still not a bad film. Then it would probably deserve the rating of 6.0.

Really wouldn't want to but I'll say: - damned good performances by Nicholson, Stanton, Quaid, Forrest, and Ryan, some uniquely "authentic" dialogue (Could ya' hurry it up? I'm beginnin' to chafe!"), and a nice musical score by John Williams.

Nicholson is good, Brando is lousy. If it is one of the top 100 westerns, then I hope it is number 100.

I think that Nicholson plays only his usual small time crook here but Brando is better than in other films.
