Why is this movie on so much?

This is saying nothing bad about the movie. I really only catch the last hour of it every time it is on. I just feel like it is always playing on Showtime, Encore, or Starz...and prior to a month ago when I noticed it popping up, I've never even heard of it.

You can also tell how good a movie is by how often it is played on the pay movie channels. Crappy movies are on like every other day and will be shown a couple of dozen times a month. They will then give the movie a couple of months off and run it again another 50 times. On the other hand, when a quality movie comes to pay TV, you'd be advised to catch it on its premiere. I remember last year when BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN premired on HBO, they showed it 3 times during the month it premiered and it wasn't seen again on HBO until the night after Heath Ledger died.

the reason for this unbalance lies in the broadcasting contract the pay-tv or tv-channel made with the owner of the flick. usually the more successful and expensive movies have very restricted airing times, because the owner wants to milk the audience with additional merchandise including vhs/dvd/bd sales. if a movie is showing round the clock, then no one would really bother to buy it unless you were a huge fan and wanted to use the special feature of the movie's medium. it really just boils down to this. bad movies don't really sell well on dvd anyway, but if a tv-channel needs a cheap slot filler, then that's a way to make some bucks and who knows, the more the movie is shown, the higher the chance that people watch and actually like it. this is not necessary with huge over-hyped hollywood releases that are sought after by the masses anyway. so in this case: the more rare they get, the higher is the interest of the people to watch/get/buy them

I haven't seen this film listed in years. The showing of WEST WORLD on TCM was the first time I've seen it listed in a long time as well.

In the UK, I don't think that I have ever seen it on the TV schedules. Westworld gets shown occasionally - on BBC 2(it was shown a few years ago). This - never seems to be on.
