Question about the ending?

I just watched this and Alexander:other side of Dawn.

Dawn ended with Alex in the alley and Dawn getting the police. Then it said "to be continued"
Is this how the original movie aired? Alexander was released a year later? Did they know it would be continued? It just seemed a strange way for the movie to end.

Boy I haven't seen this since it originally aired and didn't really remember the ending that clearly - I just sorta thought it was one of those 'don't let this happen to you' type of movies. The one scene that always stuck with me is when one of her clients says, 'wow I can't believe how much you remind me of my daughter.' That is as sick as guys asking girls, 'who's your daddy' or the latinas who like to yell out 'ahh, papi.'

Sick sick sick - I love women, I really do, but that kind of perversion I do not need at all!

I saw Dawn when it originally aired. I also saw all of the major re-plays in the next few years after the movie first aired. I taped a full-length version from late-night TV. No version of Dawn that I ever saw ended with "To be continued." They had no idea that there was going to be a sequel when they made this movie. The movie was such a ratings success that the sequel was decided later. These two movies are so different anyway. Dawn is hilarious, campy, and poorly acted. If you read the dialog in the memorable quotes section of IMDB, you will see how silly the dialog is in Dawn. (I posted all of that dialog verbatim from the movie.) Alexander (the sequel) is much better written and acted. There is nothing silly or campy about the sequel. I would be hard pressed to find silly lines of dialog to post from the sequel. Alexander is not a true sequel. Eve Plumb appears in very little of the second movie, which is all about Alexander. I would call it more of a spin-off.

The version of the movie I saw didn't actually end with the alley scene. She ended up back home.

Same here.

As I recall, this movie was a big ratings hit when it aired, lots of controversy around it cause a "Brady" was doing this scandalous TV movie. At the time, teen dramas like this were hugely popular, Linda Blair in Born Innocent and Sara T. Portrait of a Teenage Alcoholic where big hits (and much better movies). Still I think this got much bigger ratings than expected... I remember sneaking into my older sister's room to watch it.

She did go home in the original ending, it's possible you saw a later re-edited ending made to link to the sequel. Which I'm pretty sure was not planned when this was made but I could be wrong.

I just re-watched (original ending in tact) it on Youtube and was struck at how bad Eve Plumb was. I don't think it was exactly her fault, she just still had that sitcom, chipped, whiney cadence in her voice when she delivered most of her lines. It is also pretty poorly written.

The other Linda Blair film I mentioned and "Go Ask Alice" which came out around then, are far better movies in both writing and acting.

i just watched Dawn and it didn't end the way you said. She went home. before she went home she was at the bus station with her probation officer and Alexander. They kissed and she told him not to forget her and he told her that he wouldn't and they were going to get married some day. When she got off the bus, her Mom drove her home and she , her Mom and her brothers had a few lines of dialogue and then went into the house.
