The Billy Bob Thornton version didn't have the same music - vibe wasn't the same.

Was classical music used because it was public domain and no one needed to pay a songwriting royalty? That was why "The Lone Ranger" radio and TV shows and NFL films used classical music. I am sure there are many others.

Bizet and Billy Bob don't go together too well. The original carried it off nicely.

I was slightly disappointed with the film; saw it last night on MLBN, and it was kinda boring; plus, I didn't buy the scene when Tatum and Matthau each had tears.
