Tommy Martindale Memorial Scoreboard

At the 18 minute mark of the movie, on opening day. Coach Turner asks everyone to turn their attention to the new scoreboard, the Tommy Martindale Mememorial Scoreboard, then Kelly Leak rides his motorcycle across the field and interrupts the ceremony. I had heard that the original script went into more detail that the kid died playing baseball and was hit by a ball. Hence the reaction Turner has at the end of the movie. I NOW can not find any reference to this. Does anyone know this to be a fact or have a reference to this? If that was the case, it certainly explains Turners overreaction with his son, but does not excuse it. Thanks in advance.
