in my opinion if a ground ball comes back to the pitcher or even near the pitcher that said pitcher should go for the ball, irregardless. She did cover the plate and got spiked but i could of sworn i saw at least 2 come close to her. Off topic, you never swing at a 3-0 pitch, its a matter of nerves, the pitcher knows he is pressured to get a strike so the batter has the odds. This movie is just plain great!

Pitchers do attempt to field balls hit at them- the problem is that they often don't have time to get into fielding position, and they're the fielder closest to the plate, so their reaction time is limited. Runners shouldn't be sliding with their spikes up- good way to hurt someone.

You seem to be making conflicting statements about swinging at a 3-0 pitch.
