Leak was Safe!

Not even close!
And what's the deal with the umpire already starting to call him out, pulling back his arm, even before the ball arrives? Was "the fix" in?

reply

Yes. everyone wanted the Yankees to win.

reply

Maybe so. So what? Leak was safe. Michael Ritchie knew how to direct, no shot of his went without meaning, even did sports before, "Downhill Racer" where things go to a climax to DECIDE IT ALL.

At the 10:32 min. mark below: The true losing team's manager yells a "C'mon!" at the umpire (not at his player in the outfield ) right after it's clear Leak's run would win it. Why? Because the fix was "in"!

And even though the Bears were the feel-good team of the community, I have a feeling there still would've been hell to pay from the other teams had a ragtag group like the Bears beat the Yankees, even if they did earn it.

Oh stewardess...I speak jive.

Was "the fix" in?

It could be.

Don't forget three years earlier, in 1973, there was the infamous soap box derby cheating scandal when a kid was caught with an electromagnet in his car!

reply

dude you are high... catcher had the ball a whole second before leak was there, covered the plate and never had a chance.

reply

Just because the ball got there first doesn't mean he doesn't have to apply the tag! ha ha.

I would not be surprised if the umpire had a personal bias against the Bears and/or was told not to give them any close calls. Match fixing exists on all levels of sport. Please click on

He was clearly out, but close to being safe. Even if he was safe like others have said, the game would have been tied. ALSO I read somewhere that the original ending played out where Kelly was safe, and the Bears would go on to win the championship. I'm happy with the ending that was used for the movie, because the Bear's won respect. Had the Bear's won the championship, they would not have won anything, but a Little League 1st place trophy which everyone would probably forget about in 5 minutes.

Don't you know history repeats itself? Hmm Sid?- Scream 2

Leake was out, the umpire's arms are like that because that is how arms rested on his chest protector. the catch caught Leake's left leg whis is smart because that is the first body part to cross the plate. VLC Media Player Slow Motion.

I'm not going to pretend that I could tell definitively whether he was safe or out, but I have no doubt that Turner's presence in the dugout was heavily influencing the umpire's call. It wouldn't require Turner to say a thing to him either. The umpire knew who ran the league and was in charge and that his job would be in jeopardy the next year if the Yankees didn't get the borderline call.
