Wasn't he too old to play with those kids?

If that was an official Little League it was for players aged eleven to thirteen. Jackie Earl Haley played Kelly Leak. The movie came out it 1976. It was probably filmed in 1975. Haley was born in July 14, 1961. So he was thirteen or fourteen when the movie was filmed. With all due respect, he is not a tall man. So he was believable playing a younger character.
The Harley-Davidson Kelly drove must have been a moped, a dirt bike or something else. He was too young to legally drive a real motorcycles. And most of the motorcycles manufactured by Harley-Davidson are very large. I think the driving age in California back then was sixteen. If Kelly was busted riding around on a real motorcycle he would have been in serious trouble.
Where did you get the 11-13 from? Are you talking about the year this movie came out? The reason I'm asking is that I played in an official Little League when I was a kid in the early 80s. We had three divisions...minors, majors and seniors. The minors were from either 7 or 8-12 years old, the majors was I believe 11-12 years old (could have been 10-12), and seniors was 13-15.
shareYou are correct. I looked up the age for the Little League World Series. That is for ages eleven to thirteen and now known as the Intermediate Division.
The oldest of the actors playing the bears was David Pollock (Rudy Stein), who is 3 months older than Jackie Earle Haley. Both were 14 when the movie was filmed. The youngest was Quinn Smith (Timmy Lupus) who, if his IMDb page is to be believed, was 6 when the movie was filmed (I would have pegged him at 8 or 9).
