will there ever be a special edition dvd/blu-ray?

Its long over due

No, this classic is long forgotten. Sad to say.

This year is the 40th anniversary (!) so perhaps WB will release it. They licenced a lot of Paramount titles in the last couple of years, so hopefully we'll see this one.

A reunion documentary with the remaining cast members would be great.

Not certain, but I hope so. I caught this on the MLB network recently and the picture did not look great, even in HD. They would really need to clean it up for blu-ray. It would be worth it, though. Just the fact it was on the MLB (as in "baseball") network proves it is not only not forgotten, it is considered a movie worth remembering. Also, it spawned two or three sequels and a remake in 2005. Clearly it was, and remains, popular.

I recall seeing this at the drive-in theater when it was first released. Great memories!

I wonder if there's anything lying around for "extras"? I'd love some contemporary footage, or a new "making of", interviewing surviving cast members (especially Mrs Turner - I wonder if she knows what an impact she had?). Maybe outtakes, unused scenes etc too.

reply

A "making of" featurette would be wonderful. The movie had to be a blast to make, especially for the kids.
