Pregnant?

I just watched this movie and ya it was sex all the way... But just curious though, i wonder why sada didnt get pregnant since they were doing it all the time.. did she use any contraceptives? But at that time i dont think there were contraceptives around right? The only way to avoid getting pregnant was abstinence.. So since they were doing it all the time, why didnt Sada get pregnant.. Any thoughts?

Yeah..you were right.i was wondering too why she didn't get pregnant. even i have noticed that Kichizo (the japanese general) never used "protection" or anykind while he had a penetration or sexual intercourse with Sada (the housemaid). That's weirder..right? at least, the guy still used "condom" while he had sex with the 21-years old woman as his sex-partner during a sleazy journey in 9 Songs. But,surely this film wanted to show you more realism picture through graphic nudity and explicit sexual which is depicted vividly..

well, apart from the fact of real sex at shooting location..

Last Movie i've seen:
Pan's Labyrinth(2006) 10/10

Little children(2006) 10/10

She was a barren rabbit,
He was a rabid baron.
If they'd had a kid it would inevitably have been
a torrid hobbit
or a horrid Bobbit.

In fact, as anyone knows who's seen the Director's Cut....

Condoms/contraceptives have been around for YEARS.

Trojan condoms were first sold in the 1800s, and the use of condoms dates back to the Egyptian times, I believe.

That's very amusing, indeed. Nice play with words. Very intelligent.

The Egyptians developed many forms of contraception, crude forms of condoms, diaphragms and even a medicine derived from a plant that was so effective that the plant went extinct! Contraceptives have been around pretty much ever since women realized being pregnant kind of sucked.

This is a late response, but in reality Sada and Kichi were only together for a number of days (I don't believe it was even a week). Oshima stretched out their relationship to an unspecified amount to better probe the depths of sexual obsession. Interestingly, after what happened between Sada and Kichi she tried to throw herself off a cliff but was stopped by the police, supposedly. Afterwards she became a folk hero of sorts and led an odd life, even working as a waitress/entertainer at a bar and so forth. Hope this answers your question.

They were together for more than 2 weeks (the longest span).

Thou' it's stated I've been a member since 2002, it should have been 1993

Contraceptives and abortifacients have been around for thousands of years and people have always used coitus interruptus ("pulling out"). It isn't that easy to get pregnant either, or why else fertility treatments and medication would be a multi-billion dollar business? Some of my friends have only succeeded in getting children after years of trying. Also, during the menstrual cycle there only a couple of days when you can get pregnant. You don't have sex on those few days -> it's very unlikely you'll become pregnant.
