Is the Criterion version cut?

This film is supposed to be 109 minutes, yet the Criteron version, which claims it's uncut, states that it's 102 minutes.

So is it?

No. The final cut of the film is 102 minutes. There was an original version at 109, but it was shortened soon after release purely for reasons of run-time… none of the explicit content was edited out. The Criterion edition has the deleted scenes as an extra.

Those edits were made with Oshima's consent - the producers where only concerned with the movie's run-time.
