In "Champagne" what is her dress made of? Is it crochet or a kind of plastic chainmail?

I saw it on PBS.

This was Designed by Shirley Russell. I han nothing to do with this jumpsuit. Shirley found a woman to crochet 2 of them. They were actually a silver yarn. I was however responsible for the chiffon and marabou coat.

I see. Was this a closed set during filming this scene? I thought I heard that somewhere.

No it was not closed. But only those that needed to be ,due to the very thigh high rubber wadders we needed to wear. By the way , that crochet cat suit was hell. Every time it got wet it began to stretch in lenght. Running stitches needed to be put in by hand to pull it up back to it's original lenght.

A-M had said it was shrinking and I notice as the scene gets closer to the end she's almost popping out of it.

That is true. When Knits get wet they stretch and get narrower as they get longer.That is why you block knits on a flat surface to restore their shape.

I've never found anywhere on the internet that explains why she wore that odd green hairnet in the later parts of the movie.
Can anyone explain that for me please?

I heard that for the messy scene a gold version was worn and there was supposed to be a matching coat to go with it. Is that true?

perhaps hairnet was the wrong term,
What I meant was that in the last 30 mins or so, she wears a green hat of some sort which completely covers all her hair, and I have no idea why.

You will rememberwhen Tommy regains his senses he strips his mother of all things of vanity. Cut to her first public TV appearance , in green uniform including a head cover, Green scarf. All the workers are dressed the same ,Green Uniforms.
