giant pinball question

Any ideas what those huge silver metal spheres piled up around Tommy's camp are? So many of them and so sturdy (people climbing all over them) that it's hard to believe they were just props manufactured for the movie. Maybe they were tanks of some sort?

reply

I wondered that too.

Might they be a HUGE collection of silver-painted wrecking balls??

THAT'S a lot of wrecking balls!

reply

Jack Nicholson should've been used more in this film.

reply

Agreed, but he probably had such a busy shooting schedule, would he have had the time? I wish he has had more parts like this one.

At least he did his own singing and not dubbed. Good for him!!

reply

Even if he wasn't busy, there's only one song on Tommy LP sang by The Specialist so JN's part wasn't huge anyway.

They were part of the naval shipyard clutter in Portsmouth that conveniently looked like pinballs when spray painted silver! Genius art direction!

I have some photos of Ann Margret in the white catsuit posed in the shipyard with the silver pinballs in the backround.

reply

Awesome! Please post 'em if you can!

In about a week I'm going to be in Portsmouth and looking for more locations from the movie/taking photos while I'm there, I'll post them if they're worth showing!

Nilbog! It's goblin spelled backwards! This is their kingdom!

reply

I would love to see them

reply

I understand they were naval buoys spray-painted silver.

Russell will go to any lengths to put more testicular symbolism in his films. And he's never satisfied either.
