Quentin Tarantino: "Jaws is the greatest movie ever made"

QT: “I think Jaws is the greatest movie ever made. Maybe not the greatest film. But it’s the greatest movie ever made.” He adds, “there’s no ‘better’ than Jaws. It is the best movie ever made. And it shows how badly timed most movies made before Jaws were.”

Its an excellent movie, easily one of the best movies ever made, a true classic and Spielberg deserves all the praise that Tarantino gives him.

It's my all-time #5.

A film that has a few sequences on the beach where you see women's bare feet. This is porn for Tarantino.

reply

It's a great movie but I wouldn't say it's the greatest.

Definitely one of Spielberg's best, definitely one of the best from the 1970s... but it's been 49 years now, a lot of great movies have came out in that time.

I think Alien (1979) is better.

"Maybe not the greatest film. But it’s the greatest movie"

I guess its very subjective what the distinction is there.
What do you think it is in QT's mind ?
And is his stuff film or movie?

reply

"Some suggest that a 'movie' is a commercial product designed for mass consumption, primarily to generate profit and provide entertainment that meets audience expectations. On the other hand, a 'film' is thought to address more serious themes with an artistic intent."

QT would most definitely say his movies are films, and I would agree with him.

reply

I'd agree with that definition
And no doubt all but the schlokiest of directors would put themselves in the "Film" category.
I wouldnt put QT in it though, his films are a bit different , but if "serious themes with an artistic intent" is the criteria I cant see how he fits (along with the majority of other releases)

QT is a very unique filmmaker, they're both movies and films. His stylish movies are designed to entertain an audience (with violence, comedy, drama, suspense, amazing dialog and acting..etc) and they're aiming to generate significant profits (box office hit movies), while also addressing the serious themes and artistic intent of a film. He's one of a kind in that regard.

reply

Yeah , they're one of a kind , and I do like his movies.
I guess you can call his unique style the "artistic" component

but when did he address serious themes?

reply

Revenge, redemption and deception are serious themes.
