I never got the impression anything was going on. In fact, Little Edie didn't seem to care much for him. I'm willing to bet his constant presence had little do with Little Edie, Big Edie, or even his so-called handyman duties and more to do with the fact a couple of documentarians were shooting a film.

it seems he was there also when they werent shooting, big edie called him many times as we see in the doc. what inrerest would he have to go there?

reply

Jerry is gay. I think he came back there for the same reason the Maysles found them good subject matter. They were fascinating.

reply

how do you even know hes gay? when was this mentioned?

Here's one article. There are others.

Big Edie seemed attracted to GAY men. I think she liked their artistic talents.
piano playing, singing and song writing. Jerry didn't have these talents though.
I think he was mainly a prop for the film. remember little Edie only liked men who could dance. she didn't seem that interested in most men. but seemed to have a bit of a crush on one of the brothers that were filming. come to think of it both women seemed to be attracted to men with musical and or movie talents. Edie hated dull Society men.
I don't think she regretted not marrying as much as not having the career she wanted.

reply

Little Edie thought Jerry was interested in her, which was completely delusional. She also thought he might have been assisting a confederate to steal treasures from the house, which may have had some basis in reality.

reply

He WAS a heroin addict so her theories of him stealing may have been true.

Dammit Carol Sue, where is the vodka?!

Yeah, Edie may have been a flake but if she said things were in places where those things should never be (such as books in the attic--not the sort of item which would be taken by birds or animals which would go after small shiny objects or mice which would take things with which to make nests...things small enough for mice to carry--) well, someone left them there and that was as good a theory as any! (Foxes will take shoes, but only when left outside--foxes don't come into inhabited houses that I've ever heard.)

As far as Edie's assertion that Jerry was after her--wishful thinking on two counts. 1) That young guys would still find her attractive. 2) That she could get rid of Jerry that easily--by simply telling him he wasn't going to get any he would stop coming over--when in fact he was there for several other reasons of which that was none of the above.

Big Edie liked younger men and may have had a thing for gay men. I bet he came over so much because he would borrow money from her.
