Just because they don't conform to the standard of living 95% of Americans do, does not mean they were crazy. Ugh, these narrow definitions of "sane and insane" - and the government sticking their nose in " we will help you, whether you want help or not".
Society's definitions of the terms that define society's standards - they're just some crap some people made up, for the sake of "Society", in other words "Many people" or "a crowd", and have nothing to do with the Individual or the Individuals "Rights". Slavery was beneficial to society for 400+ years, and thus, Legal, yet every slave was an individual who should have had some say in the way they wished to live, to give an extreme example.
"The "Greater Good" is another Societal Term that gets twisted to the needs of some, to the detriment of others.
