Glamourous people with mental illnesses
Watching this film, it became instantly clear as to the appeal of this film... It is about two well-spoken, well-mannered, well-educated, and well-cultured people who are surrounded by the contrast of their squalor and filth. The dilapidated Mansion is an allegory for their faded glory. They still hold on to their pasts, and have little interest in adapting to the present times. All they have left are their memories, collecting dust. They live in one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in the World, yet they live like vagrants. They are the remnants of high-society of days gone by, and their class and wit seems to shine through their severely dysfunctional lifestyle. They are genuinely interesting people, they seem to always have something to say. Even Little Edie is quite the trendsetter with her bold fashion statements, sun tanning, and makeup.
