Its been many years since I've seen this movie but didn't Kirstie Alley play the young women that took Eastwood out for a jog thru the mountains for training?

Nope,

She is Brenda Venus, who does not resemble Kirstie Alley at all. She is famous, however, for being the "muse" of noted author Henry Miller. Not quite sure why her character is mute.

Perhaps OP is getting confused with the film Deadly Pursuit (aka Shoot To Kill) in which Alley does play a mountain ranger type who guides a party of weekend climbers through mountains in Washington State.

Despite being 13 years apart the two films do share a similar vibe.
