Does anyone else have Elton John's, "Amoreena", start playing in their head when they think of 'Dog Day Afternoon'? It is the opening, and ONLY piece of music heard throughout the entire film (unless you count the brief Bugs Bunny music heard on TV). It has since become one of my favorite songs by Sir Elton, who is never mentioned in the opening or closing credits for the song. 'Amoreena' was never one of his most air-played songs, so it took me a while to decipher the artist.

The album the song's on, Tumbleweed Connection, is one of his best

Such a great way to open the movie though, gives you a great sense of atmosphere, you can almost feel the heat of New York when you watch it.

As I watched the movie back in 1976 I thought it was Elton John and I never heard the song on the radio. I didn't get it confirmed till like many years later.

It's a great introduction to the movie and a great Elton John song. I thought Tumbleweed Connection was a poor album, but I thought Amoreena was a great fit with the film.

That's unfortunate as Tumbleweed is considered one of his best albums consistently ranking in his Top 5 by Reader's Polls and Critics and I agree with them, it's one of my top three EJ albums
