The 70s Brought Us Some Amazing Gritty Movies..What were your favorites?

We just talked about this movie in our podcast.

The 1970's and specifically 1975 provided us with a Hollywood filled with gritty filmmakers.

I may have to put Dog Day Afternoon at the top of the list, but the 70s had a ton of films that were gritty. What were your favorites?

Well my friend and I just watched Looking for Mr. Goodbar for the first time. Really, any movie that takes place in NYC in the '70s is something I'll be fascinated by. It's intriguing how the film tries to show both "sides" of the effects of the sexual revolution.

I'll stick with NYC 70's gritty movies:

French Connection
The Seven Ups
Dog Day Afternoon
Taking of Pelham 123 (1974, not the pathetic remake)
Serpico
Report to the Commissioner
Shaft (Richard Roundtree)
Taxi Driver
Panic in Needle Park
Across 110th Street
Prince of the City
The Anderson Tapes

"The Friends of Eddie Coyle" (1973) with Robert Mitchum, Peter Boyle, Alex Rocco, Steven Keats and Richard Jordan. Includes a scene and live footage during an actual Boston Bruins/Chicago Blackhawks game shot at the old Boston Garden.

Too many to name, but any time I get a New Hollywood movie from Netflix, I know it's going to be a good evening.
