According to Ain’t It Cool News, it looks like Orci & Kurtzman are producing (Star Trek, Eagle Eye, Transformers) and Shane Black (Lethal Weapon, The Last Boy Scout, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) writing a new Doc Savage movie
It will take place in the 30’s and Monk, Ham, Long Tom, Johnny and Renny will all be there.
Well, there go my expectations for the Doc Savage movie... Shane Black seems like a decent choice for writer -- but hearing the Orci & Kurtzman may be involved has me very concerned.
-The Legend of Zorro -- [Pulp hero movie comparison alert!] one of the worst Zorro movies made, just ask President Abraham Lincoln who was visiting California in 1850. TLoZ is like Orci & Kurtzman originally wrote it as a movie for their Jack of All Trades T.V. series and merely changed the names of people & places and a couple dates and called it a Zorro movie.
-Transformers & Transformers 2 -- oh, where do I begin... At least as far as the first movie is concerned; Michael Bay actually saved it. I read the script that leaked online and if Bay hadn't made some judicious cuts the movie wouldn't have been as well received. In any case, even with Bay's cuts the first movie doesn't hold up all that well over multiple viewings -- the MovieStop where I used to live was always packed with used copies of the movie. I've not seen the second movie, but I've read plenty of reviews that are really only complimentary of the action scenes, with little or nothing to say about the rest of the movie aside from their dislike of the toilet "humor".
-Star Trek -- O & K were producers as well as the screenwriters for this movie. I think that this Youtube video does a great job of highlighting some of the problems...
If Orci & Kurtzman are truly involved in the Doc Savage movie I fear were in for a derivative action movie that may well cause people to look much more favorably on George Pal's movie.
It looks like you've got your wish. They are now saying that it was a miscomunication, and it's not Orci & Kurtzman producing but Neal Moritz and Ori Marmur for Sony Pictures.
I would rather have Orci and Kurtzman than Moritz and Marmur (if only because their producing the new Green Hornet with Seth Rogen and the stalled Flash Gordon remake. I don't want Paul Rudd or any of the other Judd Apatow people as Doc Savage.)
