He was 89. I liked him as Mickey in "The Little Rascals "as well. In the 80's, my HS English teacher showed "In Cold Blood" in class. In later years,I read about the real life case as well. As far as I know, until most of them passed away, Robert stayed lifelong friends with his "Rascals" castmates. I recall the cute skit he did on SNL with Eddie Murphy as Buckwheat eons ago.
So heartbroken that he is gone. I loved Baretta and really wish he would have had a good time making the series, but I do understand some of his views about making the show.
Since I was a child then,I do not recall his views. What issues did he have? Didn't he have a pimp informant pal named"Rooster". I do recall the show dealt with topical issues of the day.
I've been watching the talk shows he was on, particularly Tom Snyder and Johnny Carson and he talked a little about it with Joan Rivers. I'd rather you catch those on YouTube. I don't want to say anything inaccurate and it is better to hear him tell it. What I can say is that I disagreed with his view that doing a television series is what an actor does on his way up or on his way down. He doesn't do it when he is at the top. Again, it is better to hear him say it and get it accurately. To me, before he did Baretta he had appeared in some films that had content I'm uncomfortable with watching as well as after doing Baretta. But of course, he did acting I was comfortable seeing. With Baretta, I loved all he did in the show and it would have been nice to see him doing it a little longer. It would have been nice to have that additional material to look back on. But I'll enjoy the episodes he did do.
Yes. Hell Town. I wish that he would have thought to himself, "Hey, why do this series and play someone who tries helping kids? I can just as well do that by making a few Baretta TV movies". I would have loved that.
