The SAME reason ALL TV series ends. The double damm fatal diseases of low ratings and boredom.....

I recall reading as kid in TV Guide back then that a number of television shows were cancelled due to excessive violence. Baretta being one of them. Honest. Folks were concerned back then.

The 4th season ratings dropped and it was on ABC, which was #1 and didn't need any loser shows. If it had been on NBC they'd have pushed Robert Blake for more, but he was a nightmare to deal with.

It was true, SWAT was cancelled due to excessive violence (even though it was a hit) and other shows wete toned down in order to remain on the air.

It ended after the 3rd season because Robert Blake didn't want to continue doing the series. It was still going strong when it was cancelled. I wish they had tried harder and tried everything to convince him to continue doing the show. But interviews I've seen after his death plainly show that he never thought he did good with the show and character. But he did a great job with both.
