What was the name of the song that they were singing when Jon Voight gets booted out of the rally? i have heard it in many different war movies and documentaries. Is it a Nazi song, or just a generic german drinking tune.

It's hard to follow the words, and most of it are just "lalala's" and "hahaha's", but I think it's definetly a drinking tune. There's no reference to germany, or the fatherland or that kind of thing. Peter wouldn't have joined the singing and known the words if it were a nazi-song either, I'd think...

I think you speak of "Schwarzbraun ist die Haselnuss", which is an old German "Volkslied".
The most common version of this song is interpreted by "Heino", a famous singer in Germany.

Which in English means..Dark brown is the hazelnut:)

There is another german verse sometimes, not sure what it means:

That one verse actually says:

The girl gave me a kiss
And hurt me deeply
But I gave it back to her [meaning he's had payback]
I don't want anything for free

And the "other verse" .. rammeln is a word for you know what. His goat is horny, he is horny, and his girl has to be horny.

I think it's some kind of SS Generals anthem, that's my guess.

To get some idea of the music, the album appears on a site called mp3pe, it is also called mp3xx. with free previews of it with no log ins

The album seems to have THREE Odessa marches, along with the incidental and theme music.
Along with schwarzbraun ist die haselnuss

The march is played as the original theme, then a classical piece (quite nice). Finally the beerhall band play it... with singing. So it must be a traditional piece from somewhere. It starts off with what sound like 'geigen tag'??, then its difficult to make out the rest, but from my feeble German it defiantly sounds like a traditional German patriotic piece. Not 33-45

BUT WHAT IS ITS NAME??
