What if this came out right after You Only Live Twice?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but TMWTGG was actually supposed to be Roger Moore's first Bond movie, not Live and Let Die. But an uprising in Cambodia prevented production from taking place and Moore signed back onto television for another season of The Saint. This left EON Productions with going ahead with George Lazenby. By the time Moore was able to sign back up, after Diamond are Forever, they went with Live and Let Die to cash in on blaxploitation.

I didn't know this until today but I researched it and you are right. Aside from all this I think EON or United Artists wanted George Lazenby to do another Bond film after OHMSS but Lazenby got horrible advice from the British man who created the pirate radio station Radio Caroline, which broadcast pop hits to the U.K. from a ship offshore.
