Am I the only one?

Who thinks It's Alive III: Island of the Alive is the best of the trilogy?

I heard there was a recent re-make of the 1974 film made in Bulgaria. Same story line about the baby being born in the hospital being an alien or something and killing people in the hospital. I don't know when or where it will come out or if it will be a movie or just straight to DVD?? Anyone else know anything regarding this re-make?

The remake is done filming. It was shot in Bulgaria. Bijou Phillips is the lead, I'm assuming she plays the mother of the baby. Although the film was shot in Bulgaria, I've heard rumors that it will take place in NYC. No word on whether it will be released in theaters or just a straight to DVD release. I'm also pretty sure that Larry Cohen is involved with the remake.

And, like I stated in another thread, how they're going to make Bulgaria look like NYC is utterly beyond me. It's in Eastern Europe, the people are ethnically and linguistically very close to Russian (they use the same alphabet; how are they going to explain THAT - cover up every sign?) and the architecture is a mixture of mediaeval and grey Stalinist apartment blocks.

I'm sure they'll superimpose recognizable buildings in long shots - keep in mind, most of the city-specific filming takes place elsewhere, even in big budget films, due to costs and rules around what you can and cannot do in a place like NYC.

Take Toronto for example - do you think most people outside the city they're supposed to be in recognize that they're actually somewhere else. Unless I see a Maple Leaf flag (which you sometimes do), most viewers wouldn't really know (or care).

Just my opinion.

Toronto, which I've visited several times (I live in a border city) and is a wonderful city, can pass a lot easier for NYC (unless you see Canada-specific things like Petro-Canada gas stations, Ontario licence plates and English/French signs - more common in Quebec - and of course the Canadian Flag, as you mentioned) than somewhere in Eastern Europe.

But you're probably correct about using footage of NYC. Maybe the sequences in Bulgaria will be just in dark streets or something like that, where you won't see signs using the Cyrillic alphabet.
