I remember when it came out in 1974 !

I was too young to go see in the theater in 1974(12 years old) BUT I had seen the trailer on TV and it was the scariest thing I had EVER SEEN !! It was VERY similar to those fake 70's trailer spoofed in Tarantino's GRINDHOUSE (especially the one with the low male voice saying : - If you're thinking of seeing this movie alone ... DON'T !) with the announcer saying the infamous tag line : - There's only one thing wrong with the Davis baby ... IT'S ALIVE !! With a zoom-in on John Ryan's face and the creepy sounds of the baby !! Man !

You gotta remember folks : this was before JAWS, HALLOWEEN, NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET and other iconic (and bigger budgeted) horror films (though it did come out a few months after the granddaddy of all horror films : THE EXORCIST), and it made quite a splash back in its days (and A LOT of money for independent director Larry Cohen).

It would've been awesome to be alive when all of these movies were originally released. I was born way after the 1970s, however most of my favorite movies are from that decade. It would be very interesting to see films from the past in a theater with an audience who had never seen them before to see how they would react to it because it would be completely new to them.

Come, fly the teeth of the wind. Share my wings.

I did just that with Harold & Maude the other week. I'd never seen it, and from the audience reaction, nor had half the cinema. Amazing experience. Feels like time travel!

I remember the trailer when it first came out. It scared me because it starts out with a lullaby and then the baby's claws are shown and you hear a scream. I wish they would make more trailers like these for modern movies. It was creepy.

I still remember the claw marks on my arm where my girlfriend kept grabbing me when the baby attacked. Good thing we weren't doing anything more serious. ;)

Yes, I remember when this came out in theaters and it was the scariest movie I saw when I was a kid. The TV spots were as creepy as they could be. I had a baby brother that had just been born about three months before and we actually had a crib with the hood over it, just like the one in the commercials and on the DVD cover. Tell me that wouldn't give you nightmares! This is a great movie and it holds up really well, even today (TCM just showed it).

I also saw it in 1974. I was ten. It scared the bejeezus out of me.
My cat used to mewl on occasion, and it sounded just like the baby. It would creep me out.

Dude, it’s Beacon Hills.

I never saw this film until last night and I had forgotten about it. I was about eight years old when it came out. My only real memory of it is back then you had to call the movie theater to get a recording of the movies playing. I think I was trying to see if a new Godzilla movie was playing and I heard the "IT'S ALIVE!" times. It is funny the things we remember.

The thing is, Bob, it's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care.
