This film grabs me and forces me to watch the whole thing every time

I love this movie and it's on a list of my favorites of all time. But from the moment it starts I feel like it's going to tear my heart out. Art Carney (who by the way was only 56 when he played Harry, which seems absurdly young now to be playing "the old man") is so poignant and the scenes of older people walking around the old New York of the 1970s which I'll never see again make want to cry. I keep telling myself I'm going to change the channel to something else and I just can't do it. The film is pure genius. It reaffirms my belief in humanity, if only for 2.5 hours. It's full of humor and philosophy and is beyond satisfying.

I recently saw DOG DAY AFTERNOON with Al Pacino, which is another great New York City in the '70s "time capsule" movie.
